FOG!

!FOG!
Fog effected central NZ this morning with several flights into Blenheim cancelled and delayed due to a heavy layer of fog that sat in the Woodbourne control zone. Flights from WLG and CHC were cancelled. NZ8019 from AKL joined the Woodbourne hold, after circling for a while it diverted to NSN.

There were also delays and cancellations into WLG due to the weather. Noted making diversions were Air West Coast Do228 Westport-Wellington diverting to Paraparaumu. There were several diversions into Palmerston North with 3 737's, 1 ATR, 2 Q300's and 3 1900D's all noted diverting. Some of these were then noted returning to their point of origin. There were also a few noted Q300 diversions into Nelson.

Flights seemed to be departing both BHE and WLG alright but none were able to land. There were also 737 and ATR flights noted returning to their departure airports and a few 737s joining holds around the country.

The flow on effect from these delays and cancellations will last for most of the day with delays right across the NZ network.

Friday the 13th B-Day

Some people are superstitious about friday the 13th but not here - toady Friday 13-June-08 was B-DAY the day that former Safe Air Bristol Freighter ZK-CPT was restored to life.

Credit and huge congratulations must go to Al Marshall who has put many hours into restoring the two bristol hercules engines to a state where they were able to be restarted.

Today only the port engine was bought back to life due to time and light constraints. Over 50 people were present to witness the engine roar back into life, for the first time in over 20 years.

More details on this project can be found here including photos and a detailed blog from Al on what has been and will continue to occur.

RAAF C130 Hercules A97-001 operted through Woodbourne from/to Christchurch

Saturday 07-June-08
The wild weather caused a few disruptions to air services in the South Island with ATR ZK-MCW operating as NZ5386 ZQN-CHC having to divert to WLG due to snow, on attempting to land at WLG it was badly buffetted by the Southerly and diverted to BHE where it overnighted before repositioning to CHC on 08-June as NZ5951

Monday 09-June-08 A busy day
After a bit of a quiet patch recently today was rather busy at BHE.

During the morning Cessna T182T ZK-MRH completed some training exercises in at Woodbourne.

The air ambulances were busy today with both Life Flight Metroliner ZK-LFT and Nelson based Flight Corportation Piper PA-34-200T ZK-TSD noted operating WLG-BHE-WLG and NSN-BHE-NSN respectively during the day.

A rare occurance for Bleheim took place between 4 and 5pm with at least one example of the entire Air New Zealand Link fleet on the ground at the same time. Scheduled services were 1900D's ZK-EAK (parked up) & ZK-EAM NZ2445/448 WLG-BHE-WLG with Q300 ZK-NFA operating NZ8227/228 AKL-BHE-AKL they were joined by ATR ZK-MCX operating as NZ5901 TRG-BHE.
